Taunton Deane Identifies Preferred Options for Housing Development in Bishops Lydeard

Taunton Deane Borough Council has been developing its Site Allocations and Development Management Policies Plan (SADMPP) over the last year. Bishops Lydeard residents may recall the exhibition that TDBC put on earlier in 2013. The Council consulted on a series of options based on sites that had been put forward for consideration by landowners or developers. Having subjected those proposals to a sustainability appraisal, the Council has settled on sites 7 and 8 as their preferred options. These are located to the southwest of Taunton Road and to the southeast of Hither Mead – see the link below.

These preferred options will be put out to consultation at the end of the month with a further opportunity to comment. The Neighbourhood Plan (NP) will be analysing the same issue in parallel with the SADMPP process will need to take account of these preferred options although it is open to the NP to reach different conclusions, provided that they are justifiable. The Neighbourhood Planning Committee will be seeking the views of residents on this and other issues through a questionnaire to be issued in the next two weeks.

    Interesting how it states that the three sites (6, 7 and 8) are capable of yielding the 200 units.

    We were told it was UP TO 200 units.

    average housing densities are approx 45 units per hectare, with a minimum at about 30. this would give a build of between 240 – 360units (+10 already with permission), if as it is worded that the 3 areas would be used.
