Work has started on the Sandhill Solar Park, a development of up to 7,000 solar panels on land near Bishops Lydeard. A German firm has taken possession of the site and is busy preparing the site for the ‘ground screws’ on which the panels will be mounted. The site will be fenced off behind a 1.8m high metal security fence, which will itself be screened behind a landscaping belt that has already been planted. Thousands of flags have been ‘planted’ across the site to indicate where the panel supports will be installed, with construction expected to be complete by mid-July. The total installation is estimated to have a generating capacity of around 2MW.
