In another bizarre decision, Tory-controlled Taunton Deane Borough Council approved the planning applications to erect three houses in the garden of the Lethbridge Arms together with the conversion of the barn adjoining the Fives Wall. Going against objections from many local residents, the Parish Council and, crucially, the County Highways Department, the Planning Committee accepted the officers’ unbelievable recommendation to approve the planning applications. I will be seeking an explanation as to why the applications were approved in the face of all the Council’s own planning policies. One of our councillors is on the Committee and while I believe he voted against, he doesn’t seem able to have taken his fellow party members with him. Yet another disappointing performance by our councillors. Oh, and the Lethbridge Arms is apparently closed again.
