A huge thank you to everyone that helped make last Saturday’s event such a great success.
The weather held for the 1,500+ people who attended Bishops Lydeard Party in the Park on Saturday. Promoted by local Councillor Mike Rigby and Chris McKie, the afternoon kicked off with Flamenco company, Luna Gitana, giving a spell-binding performance of Spanish music and dance. Local band Antarctica, led by Colin Mercer, picked up the baton, covering rock classics, after a performance from Debbie Aspey’s Street Dance Group.
The Darlingtons continued the event with a tight, hour-long set of their brand of euphoric, melodic guitar music. They came complete with groupies seeking autographs after their performance, perhaps a sign of things to come for this talented young Taunton band who have just signed a record deal and recorded their first album.
The night was brought to a high-energy close by the ever-popular 10-piece band Area 52 playing classic soul, ska, disco and rock that got everyone up on their feet. Live music was linked by sets from Taunton DJ Smiffy.
The event, which was made carbon neutral by Mike Rigby’s firm, The Original Carbon Co, featured themed gazebos and fancy dress.
