After more than a decade languishing as nothing more than a plan on paper, the concept of establishing a cycle path between Bishops Lydeard/Cotford St Luke and Taunton has taken a big leap in the last week. Spearheaded by local environmental group, Quantock Eco, a Committee has been formed to drive forward the plans. I have been elected to Chair the Committee and we have now recruited sustainable transport charity, Sustrans, to the cause. They have provided a blueprint for development, starting with a feasibility study.
While we believe that we will be able to raise funding for the construction phase from local developments as well as public and charitable funds, we need to raise the money for the feasibility study ourselves. We will be tapping a range of local funding options for this but have also issued a call for public donations too. As well as helping us get over the line, public donations will also enable us to demonstrate to our local Councils that the project has widespread public support and will be well-utilised. Just a few pounds from each of the people that have supported the cycle path plan will raise the funds to help make this concept a reality.
